Singapore startup Oxfordcaps helps foreign students find affordable housing

Students from all over the world are pouring into the colleges and universities Singapore has helped to make some of the most prestigious in the world, especially when it comes to business and financial programs.

For quite a while now, Singapore has enjoyed an almost legendary reputation for its colleges and universities. Their schools rank amongst the very best on the planet in the business and financial sectors, but they’ve also had a fantastic reputation for the STEM programs as well as a whole host of other educational disciplines as well.

And while, for the overwhelming majority of the time that they have been in operation, the majority of the students going to these colleges and universities have been Singapore citizens, Singapore’s new position as one of the global hubs for commerce and the startup community in general have led to a dramatic increase in foreign college students looking to pursue their education in Singapore.

This has presented a number of challenges, but the largest has been trying to help foreign students find affordable housing in Singapore – one of the challenges that most foreign students find to be the toughest of them all.

Landlords in Singapore can be a little bit capricious when it comes to foreign students, and complex lease arrangements and agreements can be daunting to those that aren’t quite familiar with the Singapore legal system or the way that apartment leases work in this part of the world.

On the flip side of things, it’s easy to understand why landlords in Singapore get a little bit nervous when it comes time to rent or lease their homes and their apartments to foreign students. College students in general are a bit more unpredictable, and when you add in the potential culture clash that can be brought to the table when you are renting to foreign college students things can really start to run off of the rails.

However, a brand-new startup based out of Singapore (OxfordCaps) aims to completely change the way that people – foreign students in particular – find affordable housing in Singapore. Mobile applications, online services, and a live helpdesk are all a big part of this new initiative, giving foreign students the opportunity to speak with someone that has full command of their native language while also being intimately familiar with Singapore culture and legalese to help them every single step of the way.

OxfordCaps has only been in operation since July 2017, but has already signed up a number of apartment complexes very close to most of the major Singapore colleges and universities. It continues to establish relationships with these kinds of operations while at the same time advertising and marketing directly to foreign students that are looking for help in this department.

OxfordCaps growth has been exponential ever since it first opened up its doors for business, it is likely that this startup is only going to continue to grow as time goes on. It’ll be interesting to see how it branches out into other colleges or universities in the Southeast Asian and Pacific region in the future.
